A small team of volunteers had the opportunity to serve the individuals and families who live in the neighborhood around King’s Park on Palm Sunday, the week prior to Easter Sunday. This is a newer outreach that has started, but each time we do it, we are able to see God’s love tangibly ministered to people in our community. This year, our teams went and knocked on doors the Wednesday before the outreach to let people know that we would be back to serve them on Sunday. One door we knocked on was opened by a family who did not speak much English. They called their teenage son to the door to interpret for them and we explained that we were from King’s Park and wanted to serve them. We finished there and as we were walking to the next door, the young man who was interpreting came out and caught up with us and shared how much it meant to him that we would be willing to help other people. He asked if he would be able to help us in any way and also asked what other types of things we did. We let him know that our youth group, Reality, meets every Wednesday night (which was only 2 hours from starting when we were talking to him) and that we would love to have him. He came that Wednesday night and has been every Wednesday night since! We are so thankful for every life we were able to touch through simple acts like mowing grass, washing cars or hauling away junk, but to touch the heart of a teenager and have him as part of Reality is what the Palm Sunday Outreach is all about. Thank you to all who served, donated tools for our use and who covered us in prayer.
